The short version — plain language

This publication is operated independently. The policy below is written in plain language, not legal boilerplate, because the data this site handles is genuinely simple and deserves to be described simply. If anything here is unclear, the contact address at the bottom exists specifically for that.

What this site is

My Resonant Chaos is an independent publication — essays on creativity, human nature, and the music industry, written by one person and published on this site. Essays are distributed to subscribers via Substack. This site is static HTML hosted on Netlify. It has no database, no server-side processing, and no user accounts.

What data is collected

The only personal data collected by this site is an email address, and only when you voluntarily submit it via the subscribe form to receive new essays by email.

No other personal data is collected. This site does not use tracking pixels, advertising scripts, third-party analytics, social media widgets that track behaviour, or any technology that identifies you as an individual as you browse.

Netlify, the hosting provider, may log standard server request data — IP address, browser type, page requested, timestamp — as part of normal infrastructure operation. This data is retained by Netlify according to Netlify's own privacy policy and is not accessed by this publication for any purpose.

Where your email goes

When you subscribe, your email address is stored and managed by Substack, the platform used to distribute essays by email. This publication does not maintain a separate copy of subscriber email addresses outside of Substack.

Substack's handling of your data — including storage, security, and your rights regarding that data — is governed by Substack's privacy policy. Substack is a US-based company and processes data accordingly.

What your email is used for

One thing: delivering new essays to your inbox when they are published.

Your email address is not used for advertising, not shared with third parties for commercial purposes, not sold, and not added to any list other than this publication's subscriber list on Substack.

Cookies

This site does not set cookies. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to. No analytics platform, no advertising network, no persistent session tracking of any kind operates on these pages.

If you visit a Substack-hosted page through a link in an essay email — for example, the Substack subscription confirmation page — Substack may set cookies on that page. That is governed by Substack's policy, not this one.

Your rights

You can unsubscribe from this publication at any time. Every essay email sent via Substack includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking it removes you from the subscriber list immediately. You do not need to contact anyone or explain anything.

If you have a question about data held about you, or you would like to request deletion of any data associated with your email address, contact the address below. Requests related to data held by Substack specifically should also be directed to Substack directly, as that data is held within their systems.

External links

Essays on this site may link to external websites — other publications, reference material, sources cited. Once you leave this site, this privacy policy no longer applies. The privacy practices of any external site are governed by that site's own policy, which this publication has no control over and is not responsible for.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way — for example, if an analytics tool is ever added to the site — the updated policy will be published here with a revised date at the top, and subscribers will be notified via the next essay email. The current version of this policy is always the one on this page.
